Ground Fault Protection Equipment or GFPE systems are those equipment that monitor and break ground faults not allowing electrical shock and equipment damage to occur. Common models are GFCI, RCD, & ELCB In application to NFPA 76 amendment and following the issue of AS/NZS 60C Part 5, Australia and New Zealand commonly use earthing equipment which is both sensitive and selective. GFCIs are known in home use, especially in areas that are sensitive to electric shock when wet while the RCDs or ELCBs are widely used in industrial applications to protect against both electric shock and fire outbreak. The aspects of GFPE devices are low current capability, fast response, and antilock type where the power supply gets tripped when faults are detected. These devices are important in making sure that the electrical installations are safe whether in residential or commercial buildings and even in industrial uses.
