Automatic Train Control (ATC) can also be described as a system that is primarily made to support train management and operation by regulating train speed. It covers a variety of technologies such as ATP, ATO, and ATS. ATP makes sure that trains are at safe speeds to avoid Fowkes and also regulates the release of brakes and the application of power. ATO assumes the responsibility for tasks such as the initiation of the train, its braking and acceleration, and speed variation which sometimes are done from a control center. ATS involves itself with the general management of train schedules and movement through a network.
