In a significant move towards sustainability, Huskee, a global leader in reusable coffee cups and drinkware, has unveiled its innovative "Borrow by Huskee" system at the Melbourne International Coffee Expo (MICE). This pioneering initiative marks Australia's first turnkey reusable cup system, designed to simplify and streamline the use of reusable takeaway cups for both consumers and businesses.
Borrow by Huskee allows customers to borrow a Huskee reusable cup from participating venues when purchasing a drink. The cups are available in two sizes: 8oz and 12oz. Once consumed, the cups can be returned within 14 days to a participating cafe or a revolutionary SmartBin, where they are collected, washed, and redistributed for reuse.
The Borrow Cup itself is manufactured using 100% polypropylene (PP), a durable and food-safe plastic. Once a cup reaches the end of its lifecycle, it will be repurposed through HuskeeLoop, the company's closed-loop recycling initiative. This ensures true circularity by turning old cups into new products.
Huskee's state-of-the-art WashHub in St Peters efficiently cleans, dries, and sanitizes the returned cups before redistributing them to cafes, hotels, restaurants, and other businesses. The drying capabilities of the WashHub allow for hygienic packing and storage of the Borrow Cups.
The official launch of Borrow by Huskee is set for June in Barangaroo, with plans to expand across Australia. Huskee aims to scale this service to as many venues as possible, starting in Sydney.
While Borrow by Huskee focuses on borrowing reusable cups from venues, Huskee also offers HuskeeSwap, a unique opt-in cup exchange system. HuskeeSwap rewards HuskeeCup owners by allowing them to swap their cups for cleaned ones at participating venues, eliminating the need to wash the cup. This system is designed for busy individuals who want to make reuse convenient without the hassle of washing their cups.
Reusable cup systems like Borrow by Huskee and HuskeeSwap offer several benefits:
Huskee's introduction of Borrow by Huskee marks a significant step towards a more sustainable future in the beverage industry. By streamlining the use of reusable cups and making them more accessible, Huskee is setting a new standard for eco-friendly practices in Australia and beyond.
