In a significant move that solidifies their position in the European fresh food market, Taylor Farms and Foodiverse have successfully acquired Bonduelle's packaged salad business in Germany. This strategic acquisition includes two production plants, underscoring the companies' commitment to expanding their operations in the ready-to-eat salad sector.
The acquisition marks a major milestone for both Taylor Farms and Foodiverse, who aim to leverage Bonduelle's established presence in Germany to boost growth in the fresh food sector. By acquiring Bonduelle's German facilities, the partners intend to enhance their offerings in the high-value, ready-to-eat salad market across Europe.
Taylor Farms, known for its strong presence in the U.S., Canada, and Mexico, produces a wide range of salads and healthy, fresh foods. Foodiverse, on the other hand, operates as a vertically integrated company with production facilities in Spain, Germany, Switzerland, and Italy. This collaboration combines their strengths to create a more formidable force in the European market.
Following the acquisition, the three production facilities in Germany—Straelen, Reutlingen, and Thurland—will operate under the brand name Greenfresh. This integration includes Foodiverse's existing Thurländer Salate plant, renowned for its private label production of ready-to-eat salads.
"By integrating these facilities into our Greenfresh brand, we aim to ensure a seamless transition and maintain workforce stability," said a spokesperson for Foodiverse. "Our global workforce will now stand at 2,650 employees, alongside nine production plants and an impressive 2,700 hectares of managed farmland."
The acquisition benefits both parties by:
Bruce Taylor, Chair and CEO of Taylor Farms, expressed enthusiasm about the potential this partnership brings: "We are committed to providing innovative and healthy products to our customers. Our goal is to elevate the fresh packaged salad sector while promoting healthier lifestyles across Europe."
Joaquín Ballester, President of Foodiverse, echoed these sentiments: "This acquisition reinforces our commitment to growth in the healthy food sector. We believe our combined experience, talent, and capacity for innovation will position us to lead in fresh food offerings throughout Europe."
The acquisition also presents opportunities for growth, while acknowledging potential challenges:
Taylor Farms and Foodiverse's acquisition of Bonduelle's German salad operations marks a significant step forward in their European growth strategy. By integrating these facilities under the Greenfresh brand, the partners are poised to offer consumers a broader range of fresh, healthy options, positioning themselves for long-term success in the competitive European market.
